A team with with first hand experience of the local Zambian context, and multi-country expertise across Sub-Saharan Africa. BI is an affiliate of BroadImpact ,a Global Development and Business consulting firm.
BI Zambia was incorporated as Brasys Initiatives Limited at PACRA Zambia as a Company Limited by Guarantee with registration number 120200005774. BI is also registered as an NGO with the Registrar of NGOs in Zambia with certificate number RNGO 101/1319/2020.
BI Zambia deploys performance monitoring and evaluation and learning services, organisational development initiatives, quality improvement processes and innovative sustainability approaches, in partnership with donors and NGOs, to strengthen public sector institutions, community-based and grassroots organisations in Zambia. Our goal is to increase access to health and social protection services for underserved populations, through the strengthening of program management and service delivery systems.
BI Zambia was selected as a beneficiary organization for the Local Evaluation and Evidence Support (LEES) Effort; a four-year Activity funded by USAID’s Bureau for Planning, Learning, and Resource Management and implemented by LINC, in collaboration with The Cloudburst Group, DevLab@Penn, and Kenyan research organization Infotrak.
LEES represents USAID’s commitment to foster evaluation practices that are geared towards strengthening local capabilities in conducting and leveraging evaluations, thereby reinforcing local ownership.
BI Zambia conducted an Organizational Capacity Assessment (OCA) of the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ). The assessment examined NMCZ’s digital learning systems and ecosystem, identifying barriers and enablers to support implementing a sustainable national eLearning platform for pre-service and in-service nurse-midwifery education.
BI Zambia contributed to the development of a strong digital teaching and learning ecosystem for nursing and midwifery education in Zambia, by assessing the digital learning through a national ecosystem landscaping and developing an eLearning strategy and operational plan.
BI Zambia provided Consultancy services to SolidarMed to assess legal, financial and organisational structures and make recommendations for SolidarInvest to operate as an independent creditworthy enterprise in Zambia
The Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Training Program is an internally funded program to provide basic M&E training for final year students or recent graduates of Bachelor's Degree program in any Health or Social Science disciplines, who are interested in pursing a career in Monitoring and Evaluation. It is a free 12-week training program towards building key M&E and Knowledge Management skills.
BI Zambia formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Global Health Corps, establishing a partnership to serve as a Placement Organisation for their fellows. This significant collaboration facilitated a 13-month fellowship period, spanning from July 2022 to August 2023, during which fellows gained valuable practical experience and contributed to BroadImpact's mission in Zambia.
BI Zambia was engaged to transcribe qualitative interview data for a research study on DMI’s family planning radio campaign. The study examined the influence of these messages on attitudes and behaviors among individuals and caregivers across Zambia’s Southern, Northern, and North-Western provinces.
BI Zambia was subcontracted by Chemonics to provide professional data entry services for the USAID-funded PASCO project. This involved the efficient and accurate entry of data related to 3PL (Third-Party Logistics) distribution operations from the Zambia Agency for Medicines and Medical Supplies (ZAMMSA) Headquarters and various hubs. The meticulous data entry significantly contributed to the overall operational efficiency and data integrity of the project.
BI Zambia conducted an evaluation of the impact of a radio campaign on mental health awareness and stigma, the use of self-help techniques, the uptake of self-help resources, and overall mental well-being among the general adult population in Mazabuka, Zambia. The evaluation aimed to assess the campaign’s effect on adults with pre-existing moderate levels of common mental illness (CMI), including depression and anxiety, by examining changes in mental health awareness, stigma, self-help practices, resource utilization, and overall well-being.
FHI360 subcontracted BI Zambia, under a contract by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, to compile essential evidence on interventions that effectively promote more equitable access to childhood immunization services in low- and middle-income countries. The BI Zambia team, actively supported the meticulous gathering of evidence and crucial stakeholder consultations. This work culminated in a detailed Zambia case study focusing on real-world, pro-equity interventions designed to effectively reach zero-dose (ZD) children and underserved communities with vaccination services, clearly highlighting best practices and lessons learned. BI Zambia conducted data collection of pre and post treatment PHQ9 and SIT data for StrongMinds’ country programs external evaluation- in Uganda and Zambia. Surveys with up to >200 participants, and >800 participants in 13 districts in Uganda and 2 provinces in Zambia.
BI Zambia conducted the End of phase evaluation of the decentralised nursing training program in Zambia- used OECD/DAC Evaluation approach.
BI Zambia conducted the 3As (Awareness, Accessibility and Affordability) Survey for OneSight’s Eye Care Service Program in Zambia. >400 participants across all 10 provinces of Zambia.
Midwifery Training Needs Asssessment, 2021
BI Zambia conducted a comprehensive assessment of midwifery training needs within Zambia. The core objective of this assessment was to gain a more profound understanding of the existing gaps in clinical training for midwives at various health facilities. Furthermore, the study aimed to identify and explore opportunities for establishing a more functional and effective preceptorship program for midwives, ultimately contributing to improved maternal and child health outcomes.
BI Zambia participated in the 9th biennial National Health Research Conference 2020. This included sponsoring 50 undergraduate and postgraduate students to the conference. You can watch our presentation on capacity building with a view of sustainability here.
BI Zambia conducted a comprehensive Life Skills Assessment with the specific objective of measuring agency in girls and young women across 7 districts in Zambia. This assessment utilized a robust cohort survey approach, involving both baseline and endline data collection phases. These phases comprised large-scale surveys administered to over 3000 students across 5 provinces, providing extensive quantitative data alongside qualitative insights to thoroughly evaluate the development of agency.
BI Zambia measured the impact and effectiveness of the PEAS approach by conducting a baseline assessment for its new site of operation, as well as reviewing effectiveness of PEAS’ approach in existing schools.
BI Zambia was sub-contracted by Q3 strategy to conduct data collection activities for the evaluation of the Children on the Move project in Eastern Province of Zambia.
BI Zambia undertook an Independent Endline Evaluation of the FCDO-funded “Empowering young women to prevent the early marriage of vulnerable girls in rural Zambia” program. This evaluation critically assessed the program’s effectiveness and its impact on preventing early marriage among vulnerable girls in the specified rural areas. The comprehensive assessment provided key insights into the achievements and challenges of the intervention.
BI Zambia conducted the Independent Endline Evaluation of the Cheshire Homes Society of Zambia "Inclusive Education for Children with Disabilities" Program. >400 participants in remote rural locations
BI Zambia worked with Oxfam to implement the second phase of the Our Zambia project from April to September 2021. BI provided MEAL support to the project, including developing and deploying a robust M&E system for the program.
